We at Affirm United/S’affirmer Ensemble acknowledge the apology that was presented at the General Council gathering on August 8th at Knox United Church in Calgary, Alberta.
We recognize that apologies are empty words, if not followed by meaningful action.
We hold space for the trauma and hurt that has been done to 2S and LGBTQIA+ community members within and by the United Church of Canada in the past, and we see the re-traumatization that is occurring around this apology.
And so, we commit to being collaborators with the United Church of Canada and the General Secretary as they develop their plan to move this apology from words to actions.
We continue our work of advocacy and support of the 2S and LGBTQIA+ community, and we invite the United Church of Canada to join us.
